Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The manuscript is original and has not been published elsewhere.
  • The manuscript is not under consideration by another journal.
  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word format (.doc or .docx).
  • The text adheres to APA 7th Edition referencing style.
  • An abstract of 150–250 words has been provided.
  • Four to six keywords have been included.
  • All references cited in the text appear in the reference list.
  • Tables and figures are properly numbered and titled.
  • The manuscript has been anonymized for double-blind review.
  • Similarity index does not exceed the journal's acceptable limit.
  • Ethical approval and informed consent have been obtained where applicable.
  • The assessment fee receipt has been attached.

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Nigerian Journal of Counselling and Human Development (NJCHD)

Thank you for considering the Nigerian Journal of Counselling and Human Development (NJCHD) as an outlet for your scholarly work. Authors are encouraged to carefully read and comply with these guidelines before submitting manuscripts.

AIMS AND SCOPE

NJCHD publishes original empirical studies, theoretical papers, review articles, case studies, and scholarly communications in the fields of:

• Clinical and Mental Health Counselling
• Rehabilitation Counselling
• Marriage and Family Counselling
• School Counselling
• Career Development and Vocational Guidance

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Authors should submit manuscripts electronically through the journal website or via the official journal email:

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Submitted manuscripts must:

• Be original and unpublished.
• Not be under consideration elsewhere.
• Be written in clear and concise English.
• Contribute significantly to existing knowledge.
• Comply with ethical research standards.

MANUSCRIPT FORMAT

Authors should prepare manuscripts using:

• Microsoft Word Format (.doc or .docx)
• Times New Roman Font
• Font Size: 12 Points
• Double Line Spacing
• A4 Paper Size
• 1-inch Margins on all sides
• Continuous Page Numbering

MANUSCRIPT LENGTH

Manuscripts should normally be between 12 and 20 pages, including references, tables, and appendices.

MANUSCRIPT STRUCTURE

The manuscript should contain the following sections:

  1. Title Page (Submitted Separately)
    • Title of Paper
    • Author(s) Name(s)
    • Institutional Affiliation(s)
    • ORCID ID (where available)
    • Corresponding Author Information
    • Email Address(es)

  2. Main Manuscript
    • Title
    • Abstract (150–250 words)
    • Keywords (4–6 keywords)
    • Introduction
    • Methodology
    • Results
    • Discussion
    • Conclusion
    • References

ABSTRACT

The abstract should clearly summarize:

• Purpose of the study
• Methodology
• Major findings
• Implications

The abstract should not exceed 250 words.

KEYWORDS

Provide four to six relevant keywords immediately after the abstract.

REFERENCING STYLE

NJCHD adopts the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition referencing style.

Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all references cited.

TABLES AND FIGURES

• Tables and figures should be numbered consecutively.
• Each table and figure must have an appropriate title.
• Sources should be acknowledged where applicable.
• Figures should be submitted in high-quality format.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS

Authors must ensure that:

• Research involving human participants received appropriate ethical approval.
• Informed consent was obtained where necessary.
• Data are accurately reported.
• There is no fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of findings.

PLAGIARISM POLICY

NJCHD maintains a strict anti-plagiarism policy.

• Manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software.
• Similarity Index should not exceed 15–20% excluding references.
• Plagiarized submissions will be rejected immediately.
• Authors are responsible for the originality of submitted work.

PEER REVIEW PROCESS

NJCHD operates a Double-Blind Peer Review System.

• Author identities remain concealed from reviewers.
• Reviewer identities remain concealed from authors.
• Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent experts.

Possible editorial decisions include:

• Accept
• Accept with Minor Revisions
• Major Revisions Required
• Reject

The review process generally takes between 4–6 weeks.

COPYRIGHT POLICY

Authors retain copyright of their work while granting the journal the right of first publication.

The views expressed in published articles are solely those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of the Editorial Board or Publisher.

PUBLICATION FREQUENCY

NJCHD is published twice annually.
