Abstract

This paper examines the opportunities, challenges, and future directions associated with the application of AI in Human Kinetics. It highlights the use of machine learning, computer vision, wearable technologies, predictive analytics, and generative AI to support personalised learning and exercise, real-time performance feedback, movement analysis, athlete monitoring, injury-risk prediction, and data-informed decision-making. The paper identifies major opportunities, including enhanced personalisation, improved data analysis, real-time feedback, performance monitoring, operational efficiency, and expanded access to physical activity and educational resources. Despite these benefits, significant challenges remain, including data privacy and security, algorithmic bias, limited explainability, concerns regarding accuracy and reliability, inadequate professional competence, technological inequality, overdependence on technology, and ethical accountability. The paper therefore advocates a human-centred approach in which AI complements rather than replaces professional expertise and judgement. Future directions include the development of explainable and trustworthy AI, multimodal technologies, longitudinal and real-world validation, AI literacy in Human Kinetics education, inclusive AI development, contextually appropriate applications in Nigeria, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The paper concludes that the transformative potential of AI in Human Kinetics depends not merely on technological sophistication but on its responsible, evidence-based, equitable, and professionally accountable integration into teaching, research, health, exercise, and sports practice.
